GARY "Daddy G" MCLAIN

 Motivational Speaker and Recording Artist

Native New Yorker Gary McLain is best known for leading the 1985 Villanova Wildcats to their first NCAA Basketball Championship by defeating Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas 66-64. The game is arguably one of the top upsets in sports history as ranked by ESPN and sports enthusiasts nationwide. In addition, Gary was named game MVP and selected to the all tournament team. In 1987 Gary was featured as a cover story on Sports Illustrated entitled "One Bad Trip" which detailed his battles in college with substance abuse. He also featured in the HBO documentary entitled” The Perfect Upset” which has been running for the last 3 years.

 

After attending a rehabilitation program, he is now clean with multiple years in recovery and spreading a message of experience, strength, and hope nationwide as a Motivational Speaker and Recording Artist.

 

He performs songs from an independent hip hop and R&B album he produced entitled "Show Daddy Some Love" inspired by the passing of his mother Geneva Garrett in August 2005. Gary is now in the process of writing his life story and working on his second album.

 

His message is powerful combining life experience with humor, music, and hard hitting truths about the disease of addiction making him truly a one of a kind storyteller. He has shared his story all over the nation just to name a few: The University of Florida, University of Massachusetts, Methuen High School in Massachusetts, SCI Graterford Prison in Pennsylvania, Discovery Church in California, Alexander Hamilton High School in New York, Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania, The Youth Employment Partnership and a youth summit at Heritage High School both in California and a host of others.

Gary now resides in West Palm Beach, Florida working as an Adjunct Therapist at The Watershed Treatment facility for the last 2 years. Gary has a 16-year- old daughter named Jade Alexis McLain.
